Dear Miss Carpenter,
This year I am applying for the Young Protectors' League summer programme, and all of us who are rising fourth-year students at Hogwarts are writing to witches and wizards who are working in the fields we might like to enter someday.
My Divination professor, Professor Cordelia Carpenter, suggested that I write to you and I hope that you are amenable to it. Until recently, I had planned to have a career as a fashion designer before marrying and becoming a full-time wife and mother. But after speaking with Professor Carpenter, I realise that I have a responsibility to develop my Divinatory Gifts and use them for the benefit of Our Lord's Protectorate.
I don't know yet if I truly have enough talent in the arts of Divination to be of use to the Ministry; the Sight doesn't run strongly in my family as it does in yours and Professor Carpenter's. But she believes I have great Promise!
In any case, I would like to learn more about how you use your gift within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.
This summer everyone who is accepted into the YPl summer programme will be spending several weeks in the country improving our skills in lots of different areas. Although Seers generally aren't involved in combat, I feel it is important to learn these skills, because when I do marry and become a full-time wife and mother, I will need to be able to protect my children and my home to the very best of my ability!
Thank you so very, very much for letting me write to you!!
Yours very truly,
Lavender Brown
